A Comissão Organizadora da INVTUR 2014 encontra-se a preparar a terceira edição desta Conferência. Temos o prazer de anunciar que poderá submeter um artigo, resumo alargado ou poster até ao dia 31 de Janeiro.

Call for Papers: 4th SEEK Conference "Public Finance and Income Distribution in Europe" (Mannheim, Germany, May 15-16, 2014)

«Dear Sir or Madam

The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) invites researchers to submit papers for the 4th conference of its research programme "Strengthening Efficiency and Competitiveness in the European Knowledge Economies" (SEEK). Entitled "Public Finance and Income Distribution in Europe", the conference will bring together economists and decision makers for discussion on fiscal policy and public debt, income and wealth inequality in Europe, and prospects for a European fiscal union amongst other topics.

Interested researchers may either submit a full paper (including an abstract of less than 100 words) or an extended abstract of 500-600 words via e-mail to: seek@zew.de (subject "Submission 2014 SEEK conference"). Deadline for submission is February 16, 2014.

This is the eighth meeting of the Portuguese Economic Journal. It is hosted by the School of Economics and Management of the University of Minho (Escola de Economia e Gestão, Universidade do Minho) and organized by NIPE — Economic Policies Research Unit.

"Boa gestão e gestão esclarecida não são austeridade, pelo menos tal qual ela tem sido interpretada pelo governo em funções"

«1. Quais os factores que considera serem os principais responsáveis pela actual crise?
A crise atual é o resultado conjugado de: i) causas externas (a crise financeira e económica internacional); causas internas de natureza económica (o esgotamento do modelo de acumulação que vigorou até final dos anos 90 do séc. XX e da ausência de uma política industrial ativa); e iii) causas internas de natureza político-institucional, decorrentes da fraca qualidade das lideranças políticas e da ausência de um projeto coletivo para o país.

2. O que foi feito para a evitar?
Não foi feito nada. Pelo contrário, políticas seguidistas de orientações externas (da UE) e uma lógica político-partidária estreita, ajudaram a aprofundar o vazio de respostas e de soluções.

3. Na sua opinião, que medidas deveriam ter sido adoptadas?
Portugal nunca devia ter deixado de ter uma política industrial (e agrícola) e ter reorientado cedo o seu posicionamento na divisão internacional de trabalho, não ficando à espera de evoluções no âmbito da OMC e da integração de novos países na UE. A aposta em novos e produtos e serviços e reposicionamentos na cadeia de valor deveriam ter acompanhado o esforço que se fez em matéria de qualificação dos recursos humanos e provisão de infra-estruturas. Essas eram peças centrais da política industrial de que se abdicou. Há dimensões ao nível da reorganização do Estado e gestão dos serviços que deveriam também ter avançado, nomeadamente, a descentralização e a regionalização.

4. Considera que, aplicadas as mesmas, poder-se-ia ter evitado os efeitos nefastos que se sentem correntemente?
Em diálogo com os agentes económicas e numa relação muito mais próxima com a sociedade, muito poderia ter sido feito. Precisaríamos de esclarecimento e capacidade de liderança nas instâncias políticas, que não existiu e continua a não existir.

5. A austeridade é o caminho a seguir?
Os dados mostram que a austeridade, interpretada como tem sido, é o caminho do desastre. Boa gestão e gestão esclarecida não são austeridade, pelo menos tal qual ela tem sido interpretada pelo governo em funções.

6. Os impactos da mesma na sociedade podem ser minimizados?
Poderiam, se o governo o quisesse. Parece haver uma agenda política que vai em sentido contrário, nomeadamente quando vê hipóteses de negócio em tudo quanto são serviços públicos. Aparte isso, há uma coisa que se chama sensibilidade social, de que as políticas deste governo andam arredias.

7. Quais as políticas que classifica como fundamentais para fomentar o crescimento sem comprometer as obrigações nacionais perante os nossos credores?
As políticas deveriam ser percebidas e partilhadas, solidariamente, pelas empresas, cidadãos e governo, o que obrigaria a montar um processo de construção das políticas que nunca foi ensaiado em Portugal. É preciso ter uma política industrial, ter uma política agrícola, ter uma política de qualificação dos portugueses, ter uma política de inovação, uma política social, etc., isto é, ter uma estratégia para a economia e para o país. Não tendo nada disso, como se pode querer ter a solidariedade e a compreensão geral dos portugueses e das instâncias internacionais, credoras ou não. Resta uma política de curto-prazo, seguidista, de gente sem ambição e sem projeto para o país, embora o possam ter para cada um dos intérpretes das políticas em execução.

Conferência Internacional de Turismo na ESGHT/Universidade do Algarve

«A Escola Superior de Gestão, Hotelaria e Turismo e a revista científica Tourism & Management Studies organizam, entre os dias 13 e 15 de novembro, a Conferência Internacional "TMS Algarve 2013 - Tourism & Management Studies", que irá ter lugar no Hotel Real Marina & SPA, em Olhão.
A TMS Algarve 2013 contará com a apresentação de 271 comunicações em  71 sessões paralelas, da autoria de 450 investigadores de universidades de 20 países.
A conferência, que pretende abranger uma ampla variedade de temas relacionados com os estudos turísticos e com a gestão turística e hoteleira, visa estimular a investigação e a divulgação do conhecimento científico nas áreas do Turismo, do Lazer e da Gestão Turística. Tem ainda como objetivo providenciar uma plataforma de estímulo às discussões interdisciplinares nas áreas referidas, promovendo o conhecimento, a troca de experiências, a cooperação académica e o trabalho em rede entre investigadores de todo o mundo.

Call for Papers - MaCCI Annual Conference 2014

«Dear Colleagues,

please find attached the Call for Papers for the 2014 Annual Conference of the Mannheim Centre for Competition and Innovation (MaCCI). The conference will take place at the ZEW in Mannheim on 14 and 15 March 2014.

In 2014, the first day of the conference is devoted to the law and economics of horizontal merger control with special sessions on mergers in narrow oligopolies and minority shareholdings. The list of speakers and panelists includes Luis Cabral, William E. Kovacic, Luigi Malferrari, Massimo Motta, Jorge Padilla, Ulrich von Koppenfels, and Christine Zulehner.

The second day is dedicated to original research papers from all fields of competition law and economics. Sessions on this day feature papers on business strategy related to competition, on the intersection between competition and innovation, and on regulated industries. Theoretical and empirical papers as well as case studies are welcome. We especially invite papers by lawyers focusing on EU competition law and/or comparative competition law.

Full papers as well as extended abstracts (three pages minimum) may be submitted, paper submissions are preferred. All proposals must include the following information: an abstract of up to 200 words, authors’ full name and affiliation as well as contact details. All papers or abstracts should be submitted to the organising committee (macciannual2014@zew.de) as PDF file no later than January 1, 2014. Proposals must be in English. Authors of accepted papers or abstracts will be notified no later than January 20, 2014. Presenters may kindly be asked to discuss another paper. Young researchers are particularly encouraged to submit proposals.

The Department of Transport and Regional Economics of the University of Antwerp is proud to announce its 10th Air Transport Colloquium taking place on 6 December 2013, in co-operation with TransportNET. 
This year’s presentations and discussions will focus on the topic of “Innovations in the Sky - The Need for Changes in Passenger and Cargo Transport”. 
 As in the previous years, the colloquium will host interesting presentations by members from academia, policy and business, and will bring together academic and business participants. Topics that are dealt with during the day include:

III Jornadas Iberoamericanas RRHH y RSC: Llamada de Resúmenes

«La Facultad de Ciencias del Trabajo de la Universidade da Coruña (España) en colaboración con la Universidad do Minho (Portugal), Universitat Jaume I (España), Universidad UNISAL (Brasil), Universidade de Brasília (Brasil), Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes (México), Universidad de Guanajuato (México),Cruz Vermella Española (Galicia-España) y el Hotel Balneario de Guitiríz (España), están organizando las III Jornadas Iberoramericanas RRHH y RSC, que se celebrarán en la Facultad de Ciencias del Trabajo en Ferrol los días 4,5 y 6 de febrero de 2014 y en el Hotel Balneario deGuitiríz (Lugo) el día 7 de febrero de 2014.

Este evento tiene como objetivo estimular la investigación y la difusión del conocimiento científico en las áreas temáticas mencionadas anteriormente, así como la promoción de enfoques interdisciplinarios y comparativos. Dear Josè Cadima Ribeiro,
We cordially invite you to submit a structured abstract to the 9th International Forum on Knowledge Assets Dynamics (IFKAD2014) on the theme: "Knowledge and Management Models for Sustainable Growth". The Forum will take place in Matera, Italy, on 11-13 June 2014.
The 9th IFKAD aims to bring together academicians, policy makers, practitioners and young researchers from different fields to provide an opportunity for discussion and debate regarding "Knowledge and management models for sustainable growth" from a wide range of perspectives – economic, social, environmental and cultural – and to explore the relevance of knowledge and intellectual capital management for supporting organizations as well as regional and urban systems in their value creation dynamics according to a sustainable growth perspective.
The conference is also planned to provide postgraduate research and PhD students an invaluable opportunity to present, discuss and get feedback on their research projects from the international experts during the PhD Consortium.

THEME OF THE IFKAD 2014:
In the last years sustainability has become a topic of global concern and a key issue in the strategic agenda of both business organizations and public authorities and organisations. Significant changes in business landscape, the emergence of new technology, including social media, the pressure of new social concerns, have called into question established conceptualizations of competitiveness, wealth creation and growth.
The 9th International Forum on Knowledge Asset Dynamics (IFKAD – 2014) aims to shed more light on how the management of the strategic knowledge value drivers as well as of the related knowledge management processes may support organizations and communities in developing strategies and practices inspired by sustainability.
CONFERENCE TOPICS AND TRACKS:

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:

PUBLICATION PLAN:
All accepted and registered papers will be included in the Forum Proceedings with ISBN and ISSN number. The proceedings will be submitted for inclusion in the Thomson Reuters CPCI database (previous proceedings already indexed).
